Our Philosophy
Black is an eco friendly clothing brand which mainly focuses on revival of handcrafted surface ornamentation and traditional textiles. The ‘black’ colour connects with the age old multiverse , similarly our brand connects with the roots of our age old tradition. It designs clothing to empower the rural artisans of Bengal and trying to create a market for them so that they can retain their fine artistry and earn enough living. Considering both comfort and fashion, Black uses natural fibres to restrict the environmental hazards caused by textile mills and powerloom. In a brief, Black is striving hard to revive the ‘FASHION IDENTITY OF INDIA’.
About the Designer
Being an NIFT alumni,I have worked in the fashion industry for years. Starting my career as designer in Export house and joining the Bengali film industry as costume designer, it has been an experimental and ecstatic journey in the world of fashion and textile industry. Black is a small initiative from my part, to broaden the scope of textile crafts of India and spreading it to the mass. I am in a search of finding out the roots of our clothing, fashion as well as style and connecting it to the present time.

I had my university’s global meet with international partners, it was all of a sudden that professors asked all the department representatives to come in indian attire for the meet. I even had to anchor the event as well as being the department representative had to demonstrate for a big exhibition too, I never have had sarees, I do wear it but this time I wanted a formal as well as a charming look for the day time. It was 8 o clock i went to the BIV store and was simply taken aback by their huge collection of blouses, kurtis, lehengas and what not. All of the blouses i chose simply made me confused about which one to take and what to miss, finally, I bought a beautiful blue silk blouse with an amazing floral embroidery and matched it up with a blue saree. The comments were more for the blouse rather that my efforts for the presentation….. I am eagerly waiting to shop more for the upcoming events from their store.
